Welcome to Class 1
Here are some regular things that happen in Class 1:
- P.E. Wednesday and Friday
- Library Day – Monday
- Homework – Out on Friday and back in by the next Thursday
This time of year is very busy as we start to get things growing in our allotment. We will be planting potatoes, beans, peas, carrots and tomatoes this year. We also look after a small flowerbed, which has daffodils and primroses in at the moment. We will later be planting flowers that be attract butterflies.
We have just taken delivery of our Wormery, which will help us recycle our fruit waste from playtime. We were able to get this through your Morrison Voucher collections, so a big “Thank You” to everyone who brought us some vouchers. (We also collect Tesco, Sainsbury and Box Top for books tokens from Nestle Cereals)
We are looking forward to a visit by an African cultural group in May, which will fit in with our topic on Africa (Jungle/Rainforest).
We are also planning some trips to a farm with support from the Co-op and this will support our work on Growing and Healthy Bodies.
As you can see we are looking forward to an interesting and exciting Spring and Summer this year.
Don’t forget to ask your children about what they have been doing, you might get some interesting answers!
Homework
Class 1 take their reading books home each night and are encouraged to share stories and read little and often, as an enjoyable 10 minutes is more productive than a ½ hour battle!
They also are able to choose a library book from the class books on a Monday. It is a free choice and they can enjoy the books how they like, as long as they look after it. We also have a poem book, where we put in fun poems to learn.
We are trying to encourage the children to be more creative with homework and so make it more rewarding. The children will be given 2 objectives on a Friday to respond to in their homework books by the following Thursday.
