Welcome
This term class 5 is studying a topic about Space.
We are looking at finding out and understanding how it is night and day in different parts of the world at the same time, how the Earth and the other planets orbit the sun, why you can only see one side of the Moon from the Earth and we will also be researching space exploration.
After all that interesting science work, where we will have learnt lots of new things, we will be making a film to explain to other children about space. We will be making puppets to star in our movies, as well as creating elaborate backdrops and props. Maybe we will create a BOSCAR entry?
Our English work is also Space themed and we will be reading, writing and enjoying space poetry and space themed stories!
Keep checking out the photo gallery for photos!
After half term we will be beginning a topic about World War two.
Bikeability
On the 14th February, Year 5 started their Bikeability week. The training included one session of skills exercises on the playground, followed by 4 sessions of basic manoeuvres on local roads for those who had reached the required standard of cycle control. This included correct procedures for starting and stopping, emergency stops and how to make turns both left and right from major to minor roads and vice versa. Our class really enjoyed this opportunity and passed their Level 1 and 2 assessments – badges and certificates should be on their way soon!!

Homework
Class 5 receive homework on a Friday and are expected to hand it in on Tuesday. Children will complete homework in their homework books. Our aim is to make homework as enjoyable for you and your child as possible. Your child will get homework in the form of up to 3 objectives. It is up to your child to show they understand the objectives in whatever way they choose. They should aim to make their work as creative and attractive as possible and it should use no more than a double page spread to do so.
Please try to make sure your child is regularly completing and handing in homework that is of a high standard!
Thanks to parents for continued support at home. Please keep practising spellings and reading books.
